//Installing Greymatter\\
Download greymatter
Make a folder on your desktop and title it gm. Do this by right clicking on your desktop then click new, then click folder and name your folder gm. Click on the zipped file you've just downloaded and extract all files into your gm folder on your desktop.
Open your ftp. I use AOL's ftp, that's the only one I've ever used so that's the one I'm going to explain but they should all be very similar. If your using AOL then go to key word, type in my ftp now click anonymous ftp, click other site, now you should be seeing site address, type in ftp://yourname.com for me it would be ftp://lillium.net Make sure to click ask for login name and password and click connect. Now you should be seeing "Please enter your login name" and "Please enter your password". Do that then click continue.
Click your public html folder.
Click on create directory
Type in gm then click continue. You've just created the folder we are going to upload the greymatter files to.
All files except "gm-icon.gif" must be uploaded in ASCII mode
Click open your gm folder you just created
2. Upload all your files into that folder. To do this first click on ASCII then click on upload. Type in gm.cgi then click continue, find your gm.cgi file and double click it to upload it. Continue doing this for all the files except gm-icon.gif
Now when I tried to upload index.html gm-cplog.cgi and gm-entrylist.cgi it wouldn't let me, it said something about not being able to upload an empty file or something like that, it's been a while since I've done it but you'll probably get the same message I did. No problem, just upload this in your file manager.
To get to your file manager type in yoursite.com/cpanel
enter your user id and password
click on file manager
click on public_ html
now find your gm folder and click on the folder to open it.
click on upload files and upload any files you could not upload in the ftp
3. CHMOD the files "gm.cgi", "gm-karma.cgi", "gm-comments.cgi", and "gm-upload.cgi" to 755,
and CHMOD all the other .cgi files and index.htm to 666.
4. While in your gm folder create another folder and name it archives then create another folder and name it emoticons
5. CHMOD the archives folder to 777 and CHMOD the emoticons folder to 755
6. Type in www.yoursite.com/gm/gm.cgi mine would be www.demented-dreamz.net/gm/gm.cgi
If everything went OK you should be seeing the greymatter logon prompt. Use Alice as the author login and wonderland as the password.
Click on configuration
save configuration
return to configuration
click diagnostic and repair
assuming everything went OK click edit authors
create a new account for yourself and delete Alice
re-enter under your new name and password, I recommend emailing this page to yourself and save it.
Now go back into www.yoursite.com/gm/gm.cgi and you can start adding entries.
